HAB
The prehistoric valley
Not so long ago, the world was a completely different place. Our ancestors lived in a cold climate, camped in caves, and hunting was their main source of sustenance.
The Deba Valley and its surrounding area have one of the highest concentrations of archaeological and paleontological sites along the entire Cantabrian coast. The Ekain Cave, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is particularly impressive.

THE SEA
One thing unites the geopark’s towns: their relationship with the sea.
Zumaia has a long history of shipbuilding. Deba enjoyed a period of prosperity by exporting wool from Castile to various European countries, while Mutriku was a whaling town and home to key figures in the maritime history of the Basque coast.
