A geopark is an area with geological heritage of international significance and a local development strategy based on science, culture and education. In a geopark, geology connects with life, culture and people. 
The world’s geoparks are like pieces of a huge jigsaw that holds the memory of Earth.

• 2004: Global Geoparks Network (GGN).
• 2015: Approval of the UNESCO Global Geoparks programme.
